Mumbai on Wednesday reported 739 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest daily rise after February 4, but no fatalities, as per the bulletin issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The infections on Wednesday rose by 233 compared to the previous day when the city had logged 506 cases.

Delhi also reported 368 new Covid cases and zero death while the positivity rate declined to 1.74 per cent, according to data shared the city health department here. With this, the national capital’s COVID-19 tally has gone up to 19,07,264 while the death toll stands at 26,210, the department said in its latest bulletin.

Spain confirms 12 more monkeypox cases

The Spanish Ministry of Health on Tuesday confirmed 12 new monkeypox cases, raising the total caseload to 132. Spain, followed by Britian, becomes the country with the most detected cases of the disease in the current outbreak. Although the health ministry did not detail the origin of the positive cases, at least 96 were from the Madrid Region, while six are from Canary Islands, nine from Catalonia, three from the Basque region, four from Andalusia and one each from the Autonomous Communities of Aragon and Galicia.

Zinc futures down on muted demand

Zinc prices on Wednesday fell by 0.7 per cent to Rs 331.30 per kilogram in the futures trade as speculators reduced their exposure taking negative cues from spot market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc contracts for June delivery traded lower by Rs 2.35 or 0.7 per cent at Rs 331.30 per kg in 1,413 lots. Analysts said offloading of positions by participants, owing to slackened demand from consuming industries in physical market, mainly weighed on zinc prices.

Cottonseed oil cake futures rise on fresh bets

Cottonseed oil cake prices on Wednesday marginally increased by Rs 6 to Rs 2,808 per quintal in futures trade as speculators created fresh positions driven by a firm spot demand. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, cottonseed oil cake for June delivery traded up by Rs 6 or 0.21 per cent at Rs 2,808 per quintal with an open interest of 84,470 lots.

Silver futures drop on subdued demand

Silver futures on Wednesday tumbled by Rs 531 to Rs 60,594 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets on low demand. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for July delivery tumbled by Rs 531 or 0.87 per cent to Rs 60,594 per kg in a business turnover of 15,314 lots.

Aiming to treat all wastewater before it flows into Yamuna: Delhi CM

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday inspected the country’s largest sewage treatment plant (STP) at Coronation Pillar here and said his government’s aim is to treat all the wastewater before it is discharged into the Yamuna. The fully automatic STP can treat 70 million gallons of wastewater a day and is currently undergoing a trial run. “We have promised to the people of Delhi that we will clean the Yamuna before 2025. Working in that direction, we will treat all the wastewater before it flows into the river,” he said.
