JSW Group, IIT Bombay join hands to set up steel manufacturing tech hub

IIT Bombay, India’s premier engineering and technology Institute, and US$ 22 billion JSW Group, India’s leading business conglomerate have extended an exclusive strategic agreement to establish a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art JSW Technology Hub in India for steel manufacturing.

The Centre of Excellence in Steel Technology (CoEST) was established by IIT Bombay, an “Institution of Eminence,” with funding from the Ministry of Steel, the Government of India, and other industry partners.

The JSW Technology Hub will be established within the CoEST to rapidly expand quality steel production while keeping carbon emissions within target levels.

The collaboration with IIT Bombay will also enable JSW Group to undertake and amplify R&D efforts in the steel sector, allowing the Indian conglomerate to develop competent capabilities in the area of steel technology. The JSW Technology Hub will also serve as a hub for the JSW Group’s research activities outside the steel domain.

The agreement outlines that JSW will provide technical and financial support for the development of the JSW Tech hub to undertake a wide range of R&D. It further states that IIT Bombay and JSW Group will utilize the JSW Technology Hub to conduct inter-disciplinary research projects and technical activities collaboratively.

This technical collaboration will allow undertaking Research and Training projects to develop patented industrial solutions and applications.

The two companies will also establish a Joint Steering Committee with their respective representations.
